Healthgrades Awards Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern 5 Stars

Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern has been named a five-star recipient for vaginal delivery by Healthgrades.

Rockland County's Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern has been recognized for its Maternity Departments' high-quality care involving vaginal delivery.

Healthgrades—an online resource that provides users with reviews of doctors and services and allows them to schedule appointments with providers—recently named Good Samaritan Hospital as a five-star recipient for vaginal delivery. This designation shines a light on the hospital's clinical outcomes regarding vaginal delivery, which stand out as statistically significant, according to a recent press release from Good Samaritan Hospital.

“With close to 3,500 births a year, our Maternity Departments are clearly dedicated to clinical quality and the finest in patient care,” said Mary Leahy, M.D., CEO of Bon Secours Charity Health System, in a press release.

Good Samaritan's Maternity Ward is led by Patricia Pollio, M.D., director of obstetrics and gynecology; and Susan Sippel, MHSA, R.N., administrative director, maternity. It includes a team of 140 registered nurses who are trained in Advanced Cardiac Life Support and are Electronic Fetal Monitoring-certified. It also includes four lactation consultants, 15 physicians, and four certified nurse midwives.

The maternity ward includes 34 postpartum private rooms and seven birthing suites. There are plans to expand to 10 suites in the near future. There are also two operating rooms with around-the-clock anesthesia services.

As for postnatal care, the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Good Samaritan can care for babies born at 32 weeks or later and who weigh over three pounds. It is affiliated with the Regional Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Maria Fareri Children's Hospital so mothers and babies who are deemed more high-risk can be transferred there.
