The Textile Arts Center provides a fully equipped studio environment for textile enthusiasts in which to learn, create and share their work. Located in Brooklyn, NYC, The Textile Arts Center provides an environment for both kids and adults in which to take classes and workshops, attend special events, and share artwork. With an invested interest in the conservation of hand weaving and other fiber arts, the Center offers a fully equipped studio and gallery space for those with enthusiasm and curiosity, with and without experience. It is a place in which craftsmen are, once again, nurtured in their making from beginning to end. Summer Day Camp: The Day Camp at Textile Arts Center is a unique learning environment where young artists use their hands to explore the act of making through different traditional textile practices. Our program is led by an accomplished team of creative professionals, fostering a sense of community and friendship among campers. Campers build specific skill sets through one-week, project-based classes. In addition to class time, there is daily outdoor play and weekly field trips! Days will be filled with both fun and culturally enriching activities. Each camp session concludes on Friday afternoon with an open house where parents and friends are invited to view projects on display. Please see our brochure for all our class offerings per session! Afterschool: During the school year, we offer an educational and fun afterschool option for children. Students may choose to study either weaving or screen printing, completing several projects in a semester. Weaving Students will learn to dress a 2-harness loom, and the basic principles of weaving while creating fabric of their own. With this fabric, students will design their own products (stuffed animals, pillows, bags, etc) and construct and embellish them through hand sewing and embroidery. Surface Design Students will learn the basics of surface design through drawing, screen-printing, and block printing. With their designed fabrics, students will create finished products through hand-sewing such as bags, garments, and home wares. Afterschool is offered in two semesters (Fall and Spring) on Mondays and Thursdays from 3-6 PM. We provide pick up from PS 321 and PS 372, and parents are welcome to have children dropped off at 3 PM. Upon arrival at the Center, students are given a snack and time to do homework. From 4-6 PM students will work with their instructor on textile projects. Classes are limited to 6 students. Sept 2010 Rates: One day per week - $855/semester; Two days per week - $1365/semester Birthday Parties: "Never in all my eight years, have I been to a better birthday party!"- A.L, age 8 In other words, we throw the best birthday ever.
