St. Francis Xavier Elementary School is opening a pre-K program for 3-year-olds in September. Dorothy Taylor, the school’s principal, says she would often watch parents drop their children off for school pushing baby carriages and holding hands of younger children. “There is a great community spirit in the area, and I saw a need for this service,” Taylor says.

The new service will include a well-balanced program that will be challenging and interesting, encompassing creative play and exploration. The children will also visit learning centers to explore their academic interests in math, science, or English. The school’s faith component is also included in the curriculum, as well as creative art, storytelling, games, music, and movement. There will be opportunities for the children to socialize in a structured environment, and they will spend time learning from specialized music, computer and physical education teachers as well.

“The little ones make your day; they just have such a great outlook on life, such sunny dispositions,” says Taylor, who shares the rest of the school’s excitement in welcoming the new age group. The school is offering the choice of a half-day or full-day program, and an early bird drop-off at 7:20am.
