PetSmart® opens in Boerum Hill and Canarsie, bringing PetSmart Charities Adoption Centers to Brooklyn. PetSmart® opened new stores in Boerum Hill and Canarsie that feature PetSmart Charities Adoption Centers, which work with local animal welfare organizations such as Brooklyn Animal Foster Network to help find lifelong homes for homeless pets.

With two new store openings in Boerum Hill and Canarsie, PetSmart® officially became a member of the Brooklyn neighborhoods on November 12, when each store hosted a grand opening celebration featuring a dog trick training contest, coupon and prize giveaways, and gift cards with mystery values from $5-$50 for the first 50 participants.

At the Banfield Pet Hospital (located inside the Boerum Hill store), attendees witnessed the "Hottest Dog" contest, judged by world championship competitive eater and Coney Island icon, Joey Chestnut. Nathan's Famous served unlimited hot dogs for pet parents and guests on-site. The pet officially named the "Hottest Dog" won a free Optimum Wellness Plan from Banfield, which included preventive veterinary care for a year.

Brooklyn's newest residents bring with them approximately 40 new jobs and PetSmart Charities Adoption Centers. PetSmart Charities work with local animal welfare organizations such as Brooklyn Animal Foster Network to help find lifelong homes for the homeless pets. In addition to finding their next four-legged family member through instore adoptions, Brooklyn-area pet parents can purchase apparel and accessories, bedding, foods, snacks, toys, and more.

"Brooklyn is such a pet-friendly environment, and that's why PetSmart is a perfect addition to the community," says Scott Marcus, manager of the Boerum Hill store and a Williamsburg resident. "My staff and I live and work in the area. We're excited to meet fellow pet parents around the neighborhood and provide the best care for their pets in our Brooklyn stores."

The new stores are located at 238 Atlantic Avenue and 8725 Avenue D. For more information on PetSmart, their stores, products and services, visit www.petsmart.com. To learn about the many ways that PetSmart Charities is saving the lives of homeless pets, visit www.petsmartcharities.org.
